Medical Daycare Q&A

What is a medical daycare?

A medical daycare is a facility that cares for children with special needs. Little Angels PPEC provides personalized nonemergency care for children of all ages in a comfortable, clean, well-equipped facility.

The facility focuses on nursing, therapy, and prescribed pediatric extended care (PPEC). This broad spectrum of services allows children to feel relaxed and parents to feel reassured about their child’s care.

When do children need medical daycare?

Some of the most common reasons that children might need medical daycare occur when a child needs:

Nursing care that a regular daycare can’t offer

Many children need daily nursing care. The average daycare isn’t equipped to handle medical needs, but Little Angels PPEC has highly trained nurses and therapists who can manage those needs with compassion and efficiency.

Medical attention outside the hospital

Children who have medical challenges may need nursing care outside of the hospital. While their needs aren’t urgent, they do need a medical expert to administer treatments or therapy and monitor them closely.

Support after a hospital stay

Children who have recently been in the hospital (or those who frequently end up in the emergency room) often need follow-up care, such as intravenous infusions, injections, breathing treatments, or special therapy. The medical experts at Little Angels PPEC manage those needs and monitor young patients closely.

How can my child qualify for medical daycare?

Most insurances, including Medicaid, cover medical daycare for children who have ongoing medical needs that can’t always be met in the home. Some of the main examples include:

  • Low birth weight
  • Failure to thrive
  • Colostomy/ileostomy
  • Insulin-dependent diabetes
  • Kidney failure
  • Brain injury
  • Neurological disorders with physical disabilities
  • Physical injury and abuse
  • Lung disease
  • Feeding disorders
  • Cardiac disorders
  • Immune system disorders
  • Genetic disorders, syndromes, and rare diseases
  • Organ transplants
  • Recent surgery
  • Oxygen-dependent after tracheostomy

If you need help with your child’s care and don’t quite know how to navigate the approval process, Little Angels PPEC can help. The experienced admission specialists know how to streamline the process and get your child the help they need.

Insurance approval generally takes five business days. You can also request nonemergency medical transportation for your child. This service, usually covered for kids who need medical daycare, includes transportation to and from the Orlando or Longwood facility.
