Home Health Q&A

What is home health?

Home health is a Medicaid service providing medical care, such as nursing care, in a patient’s own home. Thanks to ever-advancing technology, nursing care specialists can now manage many conditions in the home instead of in the hospital.

This approach can make it more convenient and comfortable for patients and their families.

What types of services does home health include?

Home health includes many services that require skilled nursing care. A few examples of the services home health can provide are:

  • Premature birth care
  • Feeding tube care (gastrostomy button or nasojejunal tube)
  • Care of cardiac problems, such as congenital heart defects
  • Care of neurological disorders, such as cerebral palsy or seizure disorders
  • Management of ventilator-dependent conditions
  • Care for traumatic brain injury
  • Rehabilitation (physical, occupational, and speech therapy)

Home health care supports your family as well. Your home health specialists provide education and guidance to help you best manage your child’s needs.

Does my child qualify for home health?

The Florida Agency For Health Care Administration determines whether patients qualify for home health services. To receive home health care, your child must be under the care of a physician. Your child’s doctor must issue orders for home health services.

Children who qualify for home health services have a medical condition or disability that prevents them from completing activities of daily living (ADLs), such as eating, bathing, and walking. And their parents or guardians aren’t available to provide the care needed.

What if I can’t be there for my child’s home health care?

Many parents need to return to work or take care of other family obligations. If you’re unable to be there for home health, Little Angels PPEC offers another option: medical daycare. With this option, your child gets the full benefit of their usual home health services in a clean and safe facility.

The Orlando and Longwood facilities also offer nonemergency medical transportation. This includes transportation to the facility and home again. Additionally, they offer rides to doctor appointments.

Home health care can lift your stress and ensure your child is comfortable. To learn more about how home health care works and whether you qualify, call Little Angels PPEC or book your appointment using the online scheduling feature now.
